As part of the TeatarNova project, the play Romeo and Juliet was made.
Young people created the play by participating in the workshops and working on Shakespeare’s text. The process was facilitated by Uroš Mladenović (actor and youth worker), and Milana Božulić (youth worker).
The tools that were used in the process are verbatim and documentary theater. The text and scenes are the result of discussions among the participants and represent an original work made together by the participants and workshop leaders. The scenes that were used for a contemporary version of Romeo and Juliet were created by engaging the participants in the play. The piece discusses the topic of forbidden love, with young people belonging to this time and age communicating with tragic heroes of Shakespeare’s drama. During the making of this play, the participants explored the topics of xenophobia, discrimination, nationalism, as well as youth engagement today.
The project is run by Kulturanova with the support of OPENS2019.
